Joining CampCIENCIAS gives you: The opportunity to explore some of the unique ecosystems in Arizona accompanied by a team of University of Arizona (UA) Environmental Scientists. As a CampCIENCIAS explorer, you will also get to take part in a full range of other activities such as hiking, swimming, group games, and evening programs as we explore Arizona.

The CampCIENCIAS programs are all inclusive! All transportation, admission fees, programs charges, accommodations, and materials are covered! We also provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks every day!

Our nighttime accommodations will vary from dorm rooms on the UA campus to rooms on Mt. Lemmon. We will be traveling in 15 passenger vans (high occupancy vehicles) maintained and insured by the

CampCIENCIAS Staff: The CampCIENCIAS expeditions are led by a team of qualified personnel chosen for their skills and experience at working with young adults in hands-on learning environments. Explorers will be accompanied by 4 staff and 4 student mentors at all times, in a ratio of no more than 1 adult per 4 campers.

CampCIENCIAS Staff Qualifications:

All personnel are CPR and First Aid certified. For all water activities, a lifeguard will be on duty. Our van drivers have passed the required UA High Occupancy Vehicle training and road test.

CampCIENCIAS Itinerary
Day 1:
Explorers meet on the UA campus ready for morning visits to cutting edge laboratories (e.g. genetics, engineering, toxicology, virtual reality and tree ring), lunch at Student Union on UA Campus, visit to the UA Mineral Museum, and sleep over night in a UA college dorm room.
Birding
Camp Coordinator Denise Moreno.

Day 2:
Breakfast at Student Union on the UA Campus, then a day of birding and visit to Kartchner Caverns in the San Pedro Watershed (all day field trip; lunch will be provided as well as snacks). Sleep over night in a UA college dorm room.

Day 3:
Breakfast at Student Union on UA Campus, then an exploration of art and science. The day will begin with a print viewing at the Center for Creative Photography. Dinner and noctural voyage at the Arizona- Sonora Desert Museum. Sleep over night in a UA college dorm room.

Day 4:
Breakfast at Student Union on UA Campus and tour of the Mt. Lemmon Science Center, with activities concerning Merriam’s Life Zones. Sleep over night in dorms on Mt. Lemmon.

Day 5:
The final day of CampCIENCIAS. Last day of fun and learning at the BioSphere II, followed by college preparation discussion and CampCIENCIAS graduation (parents are strongly encouraged to attend).
