Kylee Eblin Receives Award at the 2007 Society of Toxicology Meeting  |
SBRP student, Kylee Eblin, (advisor, A. Jay Gandolfi) received a third place award for her poster entitled, “Arsenite and monomethylarsonous acid-induced signal transduction in human bladder cells via the production of reactive oxygen species”, in the“Metals Specialty” section of the student poster competition at the 2007 Society of Toxicology Meeting, March 25-29, 2007, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The data presented in Mrs. Eblin’s poster supports that arsenite (AsIII) and monomethylarsonous acid (MMAIII) do, indeed, induce signaling alterations in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This evidence supports the roles of ROS in cellular changes caused by arsenicals both in acute and chronic studies, and warrants future investigations.
