Kylee Eblin Won Student Poster Award at the Mountain West Society of Toxicology Meeting

UA SBRP student Kylee Eblin (advisor, A. Jay Gandolfi) received first place for her poster titled: Arsenite and monomethylarsonous acid generate oxidative stress response in human bladder cell culture at the 2006 Mountain West Society of Toxicology meeting student poster competition that took place on September 7 – 8, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Mrs. Eblin’s poster provides evidence for a different mechanism of MMA(III) toxicity, a procedure that suggests MMA(III) first interacts with cellular components before an reactive oxygen species response is generated, thus taking longer to produce the effect, but with substantially more harm to the cell.  Mrs. Eblin received a certificate and cash award for her first place award.  Mrs. Eblin’s study is scheduled for publication in Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology in an upcoming issue.
