Monica Yellowhair takes First Place at The University of Arizona’s 14th Annual Student Showcase

UA SBRP investigator, Dr. Clark Lantz’s graduate student Monica Yellowhair, received first place in the Health Science and Community Outreach sections, totaling a prize award of $500 at the UA’s 14th Annual Student Showcase for her project entitled, “Depleted Uranium Genotoxicity in Human Bronchial Epithelial Cell”. Due to the increased concern over environmental exposure to abandoned uranium mine tailings as well as occupational exposures to depleted uranium via military action, Ms. Yellowhair’s research objective is to evaluate the genotoxicity of depleted uranium as soluble and particulate uranium in human bronchial epithelial cells.

Each fall semester, the UA Graduate and Professional Student Council hosts a Student Showcase as the academic portion of Homecoming weekend. The event consists of an exhibition of undergraduate and graduate student projects from all areas of academic study at the UA. Overall, the Student Showcase provides students with a unique experience to communicate their science directly to the Arizona community.

Please join the UA SBRP in congratulating Monica Yellowhair.
